“Meal in Simon’s Home”

Meal in Simon’s Home

This magnificent and monumental painting has been displayed above the entry door of our exterior chapel since our community acquired it. In the painting, we see Jesus seated at Simon’s table, an educated man of his time. Kneeling, we see Mary Magdalene seeking forgiveness for her sins.

This painting, which originally belonged to the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Paris, was seized during the French Revolution and cut in two. The two halves of the painting took different paths through France, until they were eventually reunited and sent here. Its substantial size has required us to leave it in place during cleanings and chapel renovations.
